SUMMARY

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) – both are human pathogens, which represent a major public health threat.

The main aim of the work was to obtain VLP of HBcAg which are the component of the epitopes of E1 and E2 envelope proteins of HCV.

These epitopes of HCV were exposed on the surface of HBcAg and were tested for the formation of capsids in the E. coli expression system. The best conditions of expression and schemes of purification were compared in this work.

Obtained recombinant plasmids were expressed in E. coli BL21 and K802 cells to reach the aim. Unfortunately whole capsids weren’t obtained while capsid-like compounds were noticed in the case of E2 insert.

This research was developed at Biomedical Research and Study Center of Latvia within the framework of the project of „Compuvac” from January 2007 till June 2007.

Keywords: HCV; E1 and E2 proteins; epitopes; HBcAg; capsid-like compounds
